The United States Information Agency, known as the United States Information Service (USIS) overseas, served as the U.S. government's international public relations agency from 1953-1999. During the Cold War, its purpose was to explain and advocate for U.S. policies overseas and centralize foreign information dissemination programs. The agency influenced worldwide perception of the United States through propaganda.
